See What Your Destination Needs

A curated starting point for destination research. Select your destination below, then confirm the receiving authority's written requirements.

Covers 29 destinations across Asia, Middle East, Europe, and the Americas.

How this works

Pick a destination above and we'll show you typical translation and certification guidance, legalisation services that may be relevant, and the documents you may need translated — based on the destination's immigration authority and Convention status.

All guidance is general; the final word always rests with the receiving authority. For Malaysian-origin documents, the receiving authority's route—not destination status alone—decides whether further legalisation is needed.

How To Use

What This Tool Tells You

Each result combines destination authority guidance with the current destination Convention status; it does not replace the receiving authority's written route.

Certification level

Whether a certified translation is enough, or you need notarisation, a sworn translator (e.g. NAATI, beeideter, penerjemah tersumpah), or MoJ certification.

Legalisation flow

Typical services that may be relevant. For Malaysian-origin documents, the receiving authority determines whether notarisation, Wisma Putra attestation, or receiving-mission legalisation is required.

Typical turnaround

Realistic end-to-end timing for the full visa+attestation combo, so you can plan around your submission deadline.

FAQ

Visa Translation & Legalisation — Common Questions

Quick answers to what most applicants ask before they start.

What is a visa translation requirements simulator?

It's a free interactive tool that shows which translation, certification, and legalisation services may be relevant to your destination. It uses destination authority guidance and current Hague Convention status as context, but the exact legalisation route also depends on the document's issuing country and the receiving authority's written requirements. You can compare certified translation, sworn translation, notarisation, Wisma Putra attestation, and embassy legalisation options.

What's the difference between certified, sworn, and notarised translation?

A certified translation comes with a signed statement from the translator or agency attesting to accuracy. A sworn translation is produced by a translator officially accredited by the destination country's government — for example, NAATI in Australia, beeideter Übersetzer in Germany, traducteur assermenté in France, traductor jurado in Spain, or penerjemah tersumpah in Indonesia. A notarised translation is one where a notary public has verified the translator's identity and signature on the certification statement. Different destinations accept different levels; the simulator shows you which one applies to your destination.

What is an apostille and which countries accept it?

An apostille is a certificate issued by the competent authority of a country where the Hague Apostille Convention is in force. Malaysia is not currently a Contracting Party, so Malaysian authorities cannot issue apostilles. A destination's Convention status alone does not determine the route for a Malaysian-origin document. Confirm the receiving authority's written requirements; Wisma Putra attestation and legalisation by the receiving mission may be required.

How can a UAE route differ from a UK route?

The receiving authority's written instructions and the document's issuing country determine the route. The UK is a Hague Convention party, but that does not create a Malaysian apostille route because Malaysia cannot issue apostilles. For UAE-bound documents, sworn Arabic translation and embassy legalisation may be requested; for UK submissions, a certified translation with the translator's signed statement may be sufficient. Confirm the exact route with the receiving authority before ordering legalisation.

Does the US require notarisation for immigration translations?

No. Per 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), USCIS accepts a certified translation that includes the translator's signed statement attesting to accuracy and competence. Notarisation is not required. This is why our US-specific certification options exclude notarisation — offering it would be unnecessary and just cost you more.

How accurate is the simulator's guidance?

The simulator reflects our current operating knowledge of each destination's typical requirements, sourced from relevant immigration authorities and current Hague Convention status. It is a starting point, not a substitute for the receiving authority's written instructions: rules can change, document origin matters, and individual officers or document types may have additional requirements. Confirm high-stakes submissions with the receiving authority.

Can Translife handle the full legalisation chain for me?

Yes. After the receiving authority's requirements are confirmed, we can coordinate translation, notarisation, Wisma Putra submission, and embassy legalisation where required. The exact route varies by document origin, document type, and receiving authority, so we review those details before confirming the process.

How long does the full visa+attestation combo take?

It depends on the document type, its issuing country, and the receiving authority's legalisation route. A translation-only submission can be quicker than a route involving notarisation, Wisma Putra attestation, or a receiving mission. The simulator shows an indicative country-specific turnaround; confirm the final timeline once the receiving authority's requirements are known.
